Something isn't quite right with my job or studies but what is it?

Some people find themselves in this situation. It might have been going on for a long time, but what can be done about it?

In my work as a consultant – over many years – I have come across several people with this problem. The tricky thing is that you can’t quite put your finger on why it is the way it is. And if you can’t do that, it’s not so easy to fix. What should you change?

Once you’ve gained a clearer picture of your personality, the problem has become more obvious: Either a poor fit for the job or the culture of the company/organisation, or the focus of your education. Then the saying applies – a good description of the problem is half the solution.

People have therefore found the HumanGuide test extremely useful. One of its advantages is that the underlying personality theory consists of eight basic dimensions, so the test results are more nuanced than many other tests. This allows for better conclusions to be drawn.

One example is a nuclear engineer, who said: “I’ve taken many personality tests. This was the first one that explained why I was unhappy at work”.

She had a high score for Imagination… That is why she is now, amongst other things, a bee entrepreneur…

The test is based on a theory comprising eight core dimensions (see humanguide.com for further details), which makes the results more nuanced and useful. It identifies a number of key traits for each

  • Sensibility, i.e. caring, empathetic and service-oriented
  • Power, i.e. results-oriented, quick and dynamic
  • Quality, i.e. responsible, determined and long-term perspective
  • Exposure, i.e. colourful, spontaneous and lively
  • Structure, i.e. orderly, organised and disciplined
  • Imagination, i.e. open-minded, creative and curious
  • Stability, i.e. security-oriented, traditional and economical
  • Contacts, i.e. people-oriented, easy-going and sociable

I spent a few years working on process-oriented IT operations. It went well, but there was too much Structure. I couldn’t give free rein to my imagination. Things have been much better for many years now, as I’ve been working on developing the HumanGuide concept since 1986. The main aim there is to improve engagement for more people within their companies or organisations.

The concept also includes a web app featuring a function to calculate a ‘passion index’, i.e. how well a person’s personality matches a job, a culture or a person (e.g. the boss;-)

I now also offer private individuals the chance to purchase the test, with or without coaching, via the website humanguide.nu, so that they can, for example, receive better support in deciding whether or not to take a job…
