Why did the train driver become a dating coach?
You will find the answer to that question further down in this article, but first let's talk about major concerns in the labour market. Mental ill health is on the rise. And rising. What could be the reason for this?
One major reason is that many people have performance-based self-esteem, i.e. they define themselves by their achievements. You have to be good. Preferably as good as everyone else. You will never succeed in this. It is impossible, if you think about it. For example, if you are in a room with 20 other people, you cannot possibly be as good as all the other nineteen...
Here is an alternative approach – value-based self-esteem, i.e. you think it is OK that you exist. You don't have to do great things to justify your existence on earth. You don't have to dwell on your mistakes. It's human to make mistakes, but it's obviously good to avoid repeating them ;-)
Another reason for poor health is not enjoying your job. There may be several reasons for this, such as a bad boss, poor conditions for doing a good job, etc. There is also another reason that not everyone realises – a poor match between your personality and your job. If the match is good, you may even experience your job as a hobby that you get paid to do ;-) The problem for many is that they find it difficult to analyse this match clearly. I will now discuss how the HumanGuide concept can help with a good analysis, so that you understand both the problem and what might be a sensible solution. The core of the concept is a personality test based on eight basic dimensions, which gives a more nuanced result than, for example, DISC or similar tests, which only have four basic dimensions. Since the HumanGuide test is based on an underlying theory, there is an additional advantage: we can also explain why someone acts in a certain way. This is not possible when using tests based on the Big Five model, which most psychologists recommend. The Big Five model is based solely on statistics – not theory.
A good example of an insight gained through the HumanGuide test is: I have taken many personality tests. The HumanGuide test was the first one that made me understand why I was unhappy in my job.
Now let's answer the question about the train driver... In my opinion, this is a very educational example of how someone – in this case Klas – step by step finds a job that is a better match. As we say, increases the passion index...
When he was working as a ticket inspector for a travel company, he wondered how he could get a more interesting job. Suddenly, a great opportunity came along. The company offered internal training to become a train driver. It lasted 9-10 months and was paid during that time. A much better paid job... So why not? In addition, his father had retrained as a train driver in his 40s, so Klas had a pretty good idea of what the job entailed. He completed the training in 2006-2007.
He really liked the job. Driving a train at 160 km/h is an amazing experience! It's also a big responsibility. Why did he feel that way, considering Klas's personality?
Klas's results from the HumanGuide test were as follows

You can find explanations of the eight basic dimensions on this page of our website.

What is special about this test result is that it has been reviewed by an authorised "humanguide". The aim was to arrive at a finely tuned result. This can be seen, for example, by looking at the Quality factor, where there is a small orange-coloured square in the green one. This means that Quality is the core factor (the strongest driving force) and Sensibility is the second factor (the second strongest driving force). These strengths have the greatest impact on Klas's life. If they are put to good use (matching), life will be good. If not, it means that one is not so satisfied with one's life.
Back to Klas the train driver. In that job, he really gets to express his Quality. Driving a train at 160 km/h is exciting and a big responsibility. It is also an important contribution to society. He helps others to get around in a practical and fast way.
He worked as a train driver for 16 years, but then a Chinese company took over. A completely different culture from the Swedish one. Very authoritarian, which rubbed Klas's Imagination the wrong way. Also in terms of Sensibility, i.e. a rather cold culture. Klas began to consider alternative jobs.
He then realised that he had almost completed a music teacher training course. Why not finish it? He completed the course and enjoyed being a music teacher, which gave him an outlet for Quality (helping others, etc.), Imagination (working with development), Sensibility (music) and Exposure (being in the spotlight with presentations, for example). After a while, things started to get difficult here too. There was all the administration and dealing with parents, so Klas started thinking about alternatives again.
Klas liked helping others. Preferably individually. Why not train in coaching? He did so and also realised that there are many people involved in coaching. Hmmm. I need to specialise in something. Why not dating? Many people date, but it is not always successful. Klas had a lot of useful experience in this area. No sooner said than done, here you can read about his services and how he can help others find a good life partner.
When Klas works as a dating coach, it's like "bingo" with his personality (driving forces). A high passion index.
It really is about Quality. Even just being long-term. Not giving up so easily. Being patient. Sensibility is also important, so that Klas doesn't "run over" his client and really listens deeply. Sensibility also creates a warm atmosphere. Imagination is also relevant in being able to think outside the box, so you don't get stuck. Klas also likes to improve himself and be open to other ways of doing things, i.e. not just ploughing ahead with his own method.
Sometimes it's time for presentations, when he has to explain his methodology, etc. That's when he gets to express himself.
Running your own consulting business requires a certain amount of Structure for it to work in the long run. There is a lot of help available, i.e. you don't have to do everything yourself, so Klas has acquired partners.
